International Conference ISPS CODE

23rd and 24th June 2005 - Nantes International Convention Centre - France

The first European gathering of international maritime security professionals will take place in Nantes on 23rd and 24th June 2005.

The ISPS code which came into being as a direct result of the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001 and which has been in force since 1st July 2004 aims at reinforcing the security of maritime transport by promoting cooperation between governments, the shipping industry and its related port authorities in order to protect the security of ships and port installations.

Aware of the political stakes, the economic impact and the human dimension linked to the application of the new maritime security rules, the Nantes Merchant Marine Academy and the port authority of Nantes - Saint Nazaire quickly become deeply involved in this process.

Those concerned with security, port administrators, ship owners, seafarers and representatives of the state all share a common goal.

With more than 500 participants expected to attend from the world’s main shipping centres, this event will set the stage for high level meetings between policymakers. They will be able to exchange views at conferences and round table discussions directed by international experts following a programme set up by an international scientific committee of recognized specialists.

The ISPS Code conference « Assessing the first year » will enable future lines of action for further development and investment in maritime and port economy to be drawn.
